I want good Richard Rider stories. I don't care much for Sam, and I'm not attached to his character in any way, shape or form. That said, I'm not opposed to him. It's just that he's not the draw for me.
I'll buy the book to support Rich. If the writing is good then maybe Sam could grow on me. He's no different than any other Nova corps being to me. There's room for more than one. I don't know any more than anyone else here about how the book will be handled or how Rich's return will be handled. We're all wondering what's in store for us there. We can only hope that there are good stories in store for us.
If the book sucks, then ultimately it's up to us how we go. Do we try to give feedback and see if we can carry any weight with Marvel to change the book to a better book, or just drop it like a hot potato?
If the book's awesome, then what can we do, as fans, to make sure it sticks around for years and years to come?
I'm just going to be excited about what's to come and hope for the best possible scenario. I'm happy Rich is back, I'm hopeful that it really is Rich in the flesh and hoping that there are some good stories waiting to be told. I'll give the new creative team the benefit of the doubt and form my opinions after the series gets underway. I'm not going to worry about how good or bad it is until I get the book in my hands.
I'm excited for it. It's been a long time coming and I'm going to enjoy this moment. I want a good book. I want to be entertained and to look forward to a new book every month and I want Richard to play a big part in that book.
The tease at the end of the last series says it's a glimpse into the future of the new Nova book, so my theory is Rich will headline the solo book with Sam being a support player and Sam will play a major role in the new Avengers offshoot book.
Time will tell though.

:
: What I want are good Nova stories.
:
: I want Richard back the way we loved him,
: too.
:
: But I could also accept good Sam based Nova
: stories if they wrote good ones and grew his
: character into more of a hero.

: Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that RR is
: back
: - IF he's truly back in a meaningful role
: and THE, in the flesh, Nova Prime. If it's
: "ghost Rider" as the WM avatar,
: essentially being "banned
: acronym's" straight-man sidekick, I
: won't be happy he's back in THAT role and
: I'll go after such a book just like I have
: every other "banned acronym" book
: - with an axe.
:
: Supporting "banned acronym" in any
: way sends Marvel the wrong message. It says
: that under certain conditions, they can get
: what they really want - "banned
: acronym" being the only "Lone
: Ranger" "Nova" in the MU with
: our full monetary support.
:
: That's one of the reasons they keep giving
: "banned acronym" second chances.
: They're searching for the right formula to
: sell the whiny little b###h and they think
: they can count on the zombie buyer gene
: among Rider fans to increase sales.
:
: Much has been made of the term
: "featuring Rich Rider" on other
: websites with some writers interpreting that
: to mean co-star and only a few thinking Rich
: is the headliner.
:
: What does it mean? I don't know for sure. It
: could mean anything. I doubt it means
: headline. Let's say it means co-star. Does
: that mean 50-50? Or more likely, 1 Rich
: story for every 7 NINO stories? Or does
: "ghost Rider" just make a few
: cameo appearances? I guess we'll find out in
: a few weeks.
:
: I have been criticized for taking too hard a
: line on this, but what I'm seeing is such
: hunger for Rich that even loyal fans are
: willing to accept anything that has him in
: it even minutely (such as "ghost
: Rider" being "banned
: acronym's" sidekick). That's not really
: getting RR back. That's just a Brevoort and
: Alonso gimmick to sell "banned
: acronym."
:
: Marvel hasn't even acknowledged RR's 40th
: Anniversary in any way. Does that send a
: message that they care about RR or his fans
: or are in any way interested in selling RR?
: No, it doesn't. They've ignored that
: obvious marketing strategy not because
: they're bad marketers, but because they
: don't care to sell the Rider product.
: Brevoort and Wacker and Loeb basically said
: from the beginning of "banned
: acronym's" run that we either buy
: "banned acronym" or they'll stop
: producing Nova products. I'm fine with this
: editorial and "creative" (I use
: the term loosely) team NOT producing Nova
: products. Wacker even mocked the zombie
: buyer gene, telling us that we'd still buy
: every issue of "banned acronym"
: even though we protested their elimination
: of RR. Guess we (well - most of us) proved
: him wrong.
:
: I agree that it remains to be seen, but at
: this point I no sea change here. They still
: want to sell "banned acronym."
: They're just trying to find a way to make us
: buy "banned acronym." That's why
: it's important RIGHT NOW before this new
: book starts to send a strong message that we
: WON'T accept a farcical "banned
: acronym"-centric Nova-verse. A serious
: Rider-centric Nova-verse or nothing!

: Above all, I love Marvel Comics and while I
: think boycotts and fan-wars have a firm
: place when called for, the goal was to
: always get Rich back and to move onward
: reading Marvel comics again. The past is all
: real, and guys like TL are not wrong, but
: Rich is back.
:
: This was always about bringing back Richard
: Rider...so I think as fans, we seem like
: real irrational white noise if we hit this
: crazed panic button already. Already calling
: for a boycott without a lick of a notion
: what the hell the book is. It’s not
: reasonable.
:
: As a fan I recognize I don’t have creative
: control of a property, yet we do have a
: power and responsibility to provide feedback
: and action based on what we see. That is
: some power, and I think we should use it
: wisely. Sure, Marvel was unreasonable with
: us. Nova was a good book that deserved
: better. But that doesn’t change how I act.
:
: I always wanted Marvel to see my input,
: fandom, criticism as worthwhile and
: constructive even if we don’t see eye to
: eye. I wanted them to feel like there is a
: benefit to appeasing my opinions because
: they are fair, clear and based on logic. In
: turn, if they fix what is broken, I will
: sample the product and perhaps even a loyal
: regular buyer. Therefore, my buying habits
: are based on reason and logic.
:
: The consequences for not being like this are
: that we, that is Rich Rider fans or Cosmic
: fans, do really become that "internet
: white noise". We have to keep
: credibility.
:
: I think it’s clear Richard Rider is
: back...I'm happy, grateful and excited to
: see what comes next. Did I mention wary?
: Because I’m certainly that too. Still, many
: of the theories that surrounding his status
: and who will have more page time in this new
: book are NOT based on much actual proof or
: facts other than the concession that Marvel
: is still (mostly) screwed up everywhere
: else.
:
: I’m not sure where things changed and we
: needed Sam Alexander to be killed off as
: well. This was about Rich. I’m open to new
: things as well…Annihilation and Giffen’s
: stuff was new things. The New Warriors were
: new things….etc..
: Let’s just take a refresher on a couple
: simple points:
:
: Annihilation happened in a real down point
: for me in Marvel lore. I hated Civil War,
: thought the whole line was shot and despised
: the crude antics of then EiC Joe Quesada.
: Starlin leaves Marvel in anger. Then I see
: Nova used in the dreadful Skottie Young
: stuff…the New Warriors killed off….horrid.
: Right away the Nova series is written by
: “unremarkable” journeymen comic writers who
: came from DC…and there was weird stuff right
: away. Scott Kollins art looked weird,
: Richard Rider was being treated like a
: cherry newbie, they brought back Xandar
: again? They kill off Quasar! But yeah…that
: worked out.
: Not to mention RR during during Fabnic
: (“PC”)
:
: New Warriors book…calling him “Kid Nova”,
: dreadful costumes each week, ham fisting
: some excuse where he still had his powers,
: and basically running around and avoiding
: any tie in to Wolfman Nova Volume 1
: storylines for years. Recall how long it was
: till they even went into Xandar and the
: Corps.
:
: Then there was Sam. I was receptive to check
: it out. Frankly, there was a lot that looked
: good right away. I mean remember how they
: tricked us with Diamondhead and Terrax?
: Turns out, it stunk. The crowd screaming for
: boycotts and rejections like TL were
: right…however I don’t regret for one instant
: that I held a wait and see attitude and at
: least tried it out. I don’t have any regrets
: about coming to the same conclusion
: reasonably.
:
: Loveness has written like nine total comic
: books before. I think we owe him a look.
:
: I’m not saying this stuff will be good.
: Maybe it will all suck. Maybe TL will be
: right on again. But, above all, I am gonna
: stay true to my word and who I am. I’m going
: to properly review the work, give it a
: chance and see how it is. In other words;
: act reasonable.
:
: Fact is, I’m not an angry and sour guy, and
: I want to be happy and read goddamn solid
: comics. I am happy Rich’s back and we can
: all move on together.
:
:
: --Previous Message--
: I missed it too. Doesn't bother me, since I
: come on here to talk about my excitement,
: and share that with others, not to read
: personal flame wars. Hopefully whatever
: caused Nova64 to delete a thread and post
: that message is done for good and we can all
: move on to happier days and good
: conversations!
:
: I know some fans don't share the same likes
: and dislikes, and that's okay. I'm pretty
: open about the state of Nova comics as long
: as Rich is involved. I don't hate on Sam,
: and I've always said a teacher/student
: relationship with Rich and Sam would be
: pretty cool. (Like a Batman/Robin thing.)
: the only thing that never sat right with me
: was Marvel actually killing off Richard.
: There wasn't any reason for it and they
: could've done the whole Sam thing with Rich
: being off on missions away in space the
: whole time. Now that he's back, I've got
: what I wanted and I'll support the book in
: any way I can. I'm also hoping a Pop! RR
: Nova Prime figure comes out thanks to Rich
: being back. That'd go great with my other
: RR figures!
:
: Anyway, I can't wait for the new series to
: drop and see where things go from here! I'm
: like you, I haven't been this excited in
: years!
:

: I'm really glad he's back too.
:
: This is Rich Rider...and he is head lining

:
: I guess I missed some battle, but really
: looking forward to checking out some books
: again. Hopefully it's a solid book.

:
: Richard Rider is back, alive, in the Marvel
: Universe.
:
: That is good enough for me to be happy.
:
: And, frankly, the idea of Richard Rider
: acting in a mentor role to a younger Sam
: Alexander really does seem to have a lot of
: story potential.
:
: I am happier about the state of Nova than I
: have been for a long time.
:
: Others may disagree but I am happy to see
: him alive, well, and on paper.
