I've yet to read/see the NYCC interview/panel. Promise of more "cosmic space" stories is supposed to be a given when it comes to Nova but having the occasional ties to Earth would be very welcome especially the promise of "seeing friends". Hoping that means many of his friends on Earth as well as in space. I too would like to see more family interaction when Rich is on Earth. Seeing Uncle Fudge's shop would be a great way to show long time fans some confidence that the creators are making a real genuine effort to know the history and help with the uneasiness feelings we have with this new series direction. I'd like to see Rich and Quill visit their statue memorial. I prefer to still have it around and a fitting tribute to DnA. Rich and Namorita...I'm all for Team Rich and Namorita. Rich should have a very serious talk with Wendell Vaughn about his "retiring" of the Quantum Bands and passing them on. Just as much as the real Wendell would never give up being Quasar, the real Rich that we know would want Quasar Wendell back.
For serious hard-corps Black Nova Sam skeptics like myself, we'll have to see how the first couple of issues are like and call Marvel out as soon as we suspect Rich is just being used to help sell Sam Alexander more and just to give we Rich fans a bone. I can be okay with the DC Rebirth-like "Batman and young Robin approach" I think Marvel is going with all this. Wasn't it mentioned earlier that Rich's return is going to have an effect with the Civil War II aftermath or something to that affect? Rich will know that Sam will be part of the new Champions team after quitting the Avengers in disagreement with "the adults". With Sam supposedly showing Rich how to be "human again" I sure hope that does not mean that Rich will go easy and soft with Sam just because of the new "big brother" mentor relationship. Sure, Sam is still just a kid who is just now getting the hang of his helmet's abilities, but the once proud Xandarian Nova Corps would never really allow "child soldiers" in their ranks. Surely, the Worldmind that is the embodiment of Xandarian culture and history would have never approved of a child Centurion, much less any illegal siphoning of the Nova Force and access to WM through illegal means. The Black Novas afterall were just a watchdog militia group keeping eyes on the bureaucratic "Gold Domes" that illegally tapped into WM and the NF to power their helmets. Hopefully the writer(s) address all this and know that all genuine Nova Corps Centurions were powered within by the NF while the Black Novas only had their powers when wearing their helmets.
I don't have a big issue with the art, so far. I'm okay with what I have seen. Its a cartoon style that should make deadlines easier for the artists. I'm okay with the Annihilation Era-inspired update on Rich's uniform. I assume something happens between Rich and WM that has Rich being back to the rank of Centurion. While it could also be just an artistic move, I believe Rich is no longer Nova Prime at least for the time being and will eventually assume the title again. Rich can not live without the NF and, yes, there was a revelation by FabNic told to Rich by Air Walker that "a Nova never really dies".
Sam, as well as readers who only know Sam but not the original Nova, does need to know the history of Xandar and the Nova Corps. The "child soldier" thing still bothers me but at least with Sam respecting Xandarian culture and the Nova Corps the character can have a more rooted foundation. I still dislike that Tom Brevoort and company are using Rich's return to help with sales of Sam Alexander since Sam's last book was not selling too good yet allowed to continue when other books were cancelled or should have been more deserving of an extension.
It will be great to have Richard Rider back soon. It'd be like having a long-lost buddy return. Or, a good friend you haven't seen in a while come back into your life again.

: I agree "wait and see" though
: excited and happy Rich is back.
:
: In some ways, I think a lighthearted series
: between Sam and Rich could be in order to
: heal the fan-base. perhaps an appetizer or
: primer before we get a solid
: "serious" series.
: At the least, this new book seems more
: thought out than the last volume.
:
: "Death and resurrection" is a long
: term theme. I wonder what this means here?
: Of course my gut paranoid reaction is that
: Rich (again) or even Sam will die at the
: end. Perhaps instead, this will extend into
: some broad story-lines with another rebirth
: for the Corps...Xandar...or Rich's brother
: Robbie. (or even jesse)
:
:
: I wrote this about the art:
:
: This looks decent…the art works well enough.
: I don’t have many problems with the lack of
: a “Prime” star. Perhaps some aspect of the
: story will explain that.
:
: Again, I have more of an issue with a comedy
: series based off “Nextwave”. Not too sure
: about that…but I’ve never read Nextwave
: either.
:
: For one, there is a glut of comedy or light
: hearted stuff out there, especially within
: cosmic. Its hard to separate with this
: material, and several books have failed. I
: still think a lot of the comedy in the
: cosmic is trying too hard to ride the
: coattails of the GOTG film, and stems from a
: lack of confidence in serious cosmic science
: fiction of the DnA, Giffen, or even Starlin/
: Kirby breed. The need to “dumb down” runs
: strong with Axel Alonso’s Marvel.
:
: Two, the creative team is interesting, but
: not going to be a draw.
:
: Three, I have doubts about “long term
: viability” as a comedy series that harkens
: back to Nextwave.
:
: Personally, I think the comedy rout was an
: abject disaster for both The New Warriors
: and Star-Lord, though it has worked for
: others.
:
: Lastly, NYCC seems to have sent a message to
: me that Marvel cosmic is still very far from
: a united vision. Still disjointed and
: deprioritized.
:
: Still, good to see Rich Back. I think the
: top image pushes away some of the fears of
: Rich as a “ghost” or as a bumbling sidekick
: to Sam.

: I had planned to post this today but you
: beat
: me and Nova64 to it - well here at least -
: we've been busy at the FB Nova Groups. I
: really hope so - pends on how good the
: series is and how the dynamic between Rich
: and Sam develops. Only time will tell but
: can say I do like the new Annihilation style
: update for Rich and the mods to Sam as well.
: Stay tuned to a new main annoucement, OR
: 2,from NPP and NMB for the new era!

: the GREATER part of Nova Fandom will rejoice
: too.
: I hope for a United Nova Fandom… well that’s
: my hope
:
:
:
: Anyway… thanks NMB for being there for the
: fans!!!
: FOR ALL THE NOVA FANS (both Rich and poor. I
: mean Sam )
