breakfast taking place that morning and then to our daughter's grave. I said that I wish I had flowere to put on the grave. He suggested putting on the carnation I was given at the church that day. .
Well we had only a few minutes to get to the breakfast and we were glad we did. After a great breakfast served by our local firefighters and their families, we socialized with some of our friends. At the door, a young lady who was a friend of our daughter Catherine gave me a carnation. I told her we were going to leave it at Catherine's grave, and she gave me several for that purpose. The cemetery is a short distance away , and we drove up there with the carnations, and spent a few minutes reminiscing. We noticed some women busily working at a nearby grave and realized it was the resting place of a woman we knew who died a few years ago. The women came over and we talked about their mother Louise, who had been an army veteran. As we spoke it turned out that she had been a nurse at the end of World War Two and had been assigned to help survivors in a German concentration camp when the war was over. My husband had got Louise involved in the local Rescue Squad when he was the captain. As we were talking I looked up to the sky and a beautiful hawk kept circling round and round.
After the ladies had gone back to their mother's grave to tidy up their things, and leave, I asked if they had a spare jar to put our flowers in. They offered a container that worked perfectly . Well mother's day is halfway over and so far it has gone well and I don't feel sad any more,
Happy Mothers Day, Vera
