What's the latest news in Berrien County? Did you all find
another message board? What interesting has been going on that I might not have heard of on the Kalamazoo news?
Here's some Berrien County news I remember recently seeing on TV-3 WWMT:
- A state police officer assigned to the Bridgman post was arrested for violating his ex-wife's personal protection order in Saint Joseph.
- Whirlpool has developed a new oven with a cooling unit in it. The usage of this would be you put a roast of some sort in the oven with a set time for it to start cooking. You would put the roast in the oven in the morning. The oven would keep the roast frozen or refridgerated until the time it is supposed to start cooking. After it is done cooking (you would pre-set the cooking time), the oven would refridgerate the roast so it doesn't make you sick when you eat it later. Someone from Whirlpool said they didn't expect the product to do very well, since most people are pretty conservative when it comes to kitchen appliances, not as open to innovation.
- Whirlpool stock prices took a dive on accounting rumors as a result of fall-out from the Enron fiasco. Someone in charge at Whirlpool released a statement saying all of their financial statements are complete and accurate.
- The Donald C. Cook nuclear power plant felt it necessary to hold a press conference to address safety concerns related to terrorism. TV-3 reported that everyone who enters the Cook plant now has to be positively identified via a biometric hand scan. Also reported was that the visitors' center was closed immediately following September 11 attacks and would re-open in a few weeks (the visitors' center is normally closed in January anyway). It seems like just about everything that happens at either the Cook Plant or Palasides gets well reported here in Kalamazoo. I did hear sometime ago on the news that the Cook Plant might soon have to begin using external concrete casks to store spent fuel rods, just like they've been doing at Palasides for some time.
What interesting news have I missed? Keep me informed!
