I once lived in Benton Harbor

We moved to North Texas in 1969 and left Benton Harbor forever. I have never returned to the town where I grew up. I remember Silver Beach and The House of David very well. I also remember a time when folks of two races lived, worked, played and servived together in a single community. A friend of mine told me a couple of years ago the Benton Harbor was now being called Benton Harlem. This is not the town I was raised in, but let me mention some things I do remember. When in the mid 1960s something strange happened. All of the black kids and white kids were watching so much television that they sucummed to the racial events of the day. A sad polarization occured umong kids who used to spend the night at each others houses. What a shame. I read the local News paper web site and see that this polarization is still being supported by the media. I miss the Benton Harbor of my early memory where kids of all races went trick or treating together in everyones neighborhoods. Things are not made better by the media...SHAME ON YOU News Paladium BUT I KNOW YOU DO NOT CARE!I learned to play the coronet at Fairplain East ands went to the Starlite drive in with the train rides. How could the media in that town destroy this memory for those who really remember a fine industrial town... buried in fruit, grapes and corn.
