Sad news that escaped notice, character actor Arthur Malet died on May 18, 2013. He was 85. The British-born Malet appeared in season 3's "The Trial and Error of Aunt Clara" as 'Judge Bean.'
Arthur was a familiar face for decades with memorable appearances in episodes of THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW, THE FUGITIVE, DALLAS, I DREAM OF JEANNIE, BONANZA, THE WILD WILD WEST, WKRP IN CINCINNATI and scores more. He's probably best known as 'Mr. Dawes Jr." in Walt Disney's MARY POPPINS (1964).
Drats, "The Trial and Error of Aunt Clara" is another one of my favorite episodes. Funny, he seemed so much older than Sam and yet he was only 5 years older. He was only 39 when this episode first aired. They must've died his hair to make him look older. RIP Judge Bean!
Below, a pic of Arthur and Howard McNear from a 1966 episode of THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW, "The Battle of Mayberry." Gives you an idea how he looked without dyed hair.
Also from 1966... Some video clips of Malet, with Richard Dawson, from MUNSTER, GO HOME!. As himself, without the aging makeup. [url=
Definitely dyed his hair! What an, um, interesting looking man he was. With the lighting they did on "Aunt Clara," he was a scary looking fellow. I remember when we lived in Texas, and I found out there really was a hanging Judge Bean in the old West, I thought that was a hoot!"Witches are good! Witches are dear!"
