This is difficult to confess among fine people who prize their collected episodes of Bewitched on DVD. But I must come clean.
I started collecting Bewitched on DVD season-by-season, as so many of us did. My cat horked a hairball on my season 2 cardboard box, and I had to throw it out. I couldn't very well have a boxed season 1 and a naked season 2, so I also threw out the box for season 1. As each subsequent season was released, I looked at the boxes. Really looked at them. And then threw them in the garbage in keeping with the previous seasons.
Yes, I devalued them, but I really don't intend ever to sell them. I only want the DVD content and the plastic cases to protect them. And they look so lovely on my mantelpiece as one color-coded series in unboxed glory.
I feel fifty pounds lighter now! "Sterbo... Vectra... Rangay... Zeem. You're about to have a dream. And, in the words of a wise philosopher, it's going to be a BEAUT!"
I understand completely. The DVD boxes are simply for marketing and transporting purposes and with the exception of you maybe wanting to keep them for the art work, they have no real value.
*I'm always considering getting rid of the outer boxes...its hard to do with whole season/sets because you want to keep the *set* ..for me most individual movies (not pkg sets) I have I've stored in binders. That alone has saved large amounts of shelf/storage space. Series/sets are hard to do*!* *You're right Octolad, I'm not going to sell off BW so why not*?*
I'm such a hoarder--I contemplate getting rid of the boxes every time I watch and then put away the DVDs. They're always getting caught on some inner folded piece of cardboard and it drives me nuts. But I just can't do it yet. My daughter has been working on me to start cleaning out things, and while I appreciate her helping me learn to let go--it's a HUGE internal struggle for me. We recently had the same discussion over a boxed set of the Jewel in the Crown paperback book collection. In the end, I gave in and let her throw the silly box away. Nothing cataclysmic has happened as a result (the world didn't come to an end), so maybe there's hope!
Did we discuss getting rid of your old home video tapes of the eppies (before the glorious day of DVDs)? So hard!! They were so precious for such a long time. Hard to part with such old friends--as imperfect as they are!"Witches are good! Witches are dear!"
Thank you Tracey, SamSarah, and Maurine. I don't feel so bad now.
Between throwing out the boxes and many years ago losing a Dick Sargent-autographed Atlanta Gay Pride bandana to a move, I felt like the worst Bewitched collector ever. I may yet be -- we'll see! "Sterbo... Vectra... Rangay... Zeem. You're about to have a dream. And, in the words of a wise philosopher, it's going to be a BEAUT!"
What? AAnd you didn't even cut out around the Bewitched logo to tape it on to something else? I cannot get rid of anything with the Bewitched logo. As much as I would like to. Back in the day, I was so addicted to collecting Bewitched things off of eBay, I probably would have spent $5 on a turd embossed with the Bewitched logo.
Kudos to you for keeping it simple. The older I get the more I realize that clutter isn't cool.Sow's ears are not made into silk purses by the addition of a few dandelions, Samantha!
