Did anyone ever do an exhaustive study of the art on the walls at "our house"? I'd love to collaborate on that, if anyone else has an inclination. I just found out the name of the folk art painting over the living room fireplace in season three. It's one of Grandma Moses' "Checkered House" series (1943)
"Situated along the Cambridge Turnpike, it was an inn where stagecoach drivers had changed horses as far back as the eighteenth century. During the Revolutionary War, the inn served as General Baum's headquarters and field hospital. Its checkerboard front made the house a distinctive landmark that was remembered long after it burned in 1907. " "Witches are good! Witches are dear!"
http://www.harpiesbizarre.com/art.htmHi "Maurine" That painting is on this page if it helps Best wishes"Mommy, I only have little legs, for me this is hurry!!"
I have always wondered if that "Samantha Stephens" signature was actually done by Elizabeth Montgomery. The flair of the penmanship certainly resembles Lizzie's penmanship.
Looking at various canceled checks signed by Elizabeth, I'm now inclined that to think that she really did do the Samantha Stephens signature on the painting, it does look like her handwriting!
A long time ago I was able to google the different paintings/ art and found the name of most of them. Most of them are all famous and well known like the "Girl With A Broom" by Rembrandt, "The Old Guitarist" by Picasso and the ship painting in the den (I forgot what that one is called).
I have the Picasso and a ship picture similar to the one in the den hanging in my house.
I'm not sure if that's what you're asking but I thought I would throw in my two cents.I demand your pickle!
Thanks, everybody! Gary, I looked and looked for that--i had thought someone had done an article on it, but I missed it. That's what I get for trying to do everything on my phone!
JP, that is very cool about the "Samantha Stephens" signature. There is something so special about handwriting, and seeing that signature and associating the handwriting with Samantha give you another insight into the person. (I will refrain from getting on my soapbox about the decline of sending letters and teaching handwriting in school!)
What's-his-name,I am envious of your art collection! There is a painting that is in the living room sometimes, the master bedroom sometimes that looks like Andrew Wyeth reminds me of "Christina's World"). I have looked through all the Wyeth I can find, and there's nothing exactly like it. I even thought maybe it was a detail of "Christina," but it's not. I'd love to identify that one.
Also, I'm curious about the line drawing of the children that's in Tabatha's room in season 3. I'd love to know who did that. Seems like there were similar drawings prevalent in the 60s."Witches are good! Witches are dear!"
Good luck with the line drawing. I don't know who did that one or where you could get a copy of it. Sometimes you just find an art print that is close and go with it like the ship painting that I have. I demand your pickle!
