Doug is not trying to be EK. He’s trying to jump 22 cars on EK’s XR750 and put on a great show for the fans. Doug and I have been Evel fans since we were kids and we were lucky enough to be friends with the man. All the respect to Evel and all he did, THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER EVEL KNIEVEL. Just to give a little insight, Doug is 53 years old and a cancer survivor; he’s attempting a very long jump on a 40 plus year old bike. Yes the ramps are better, better design (Doug did 80% of the wielding on his own ramps) but the jump is still incredibly dangerous. The jump might be longer then Evel’s, the cars for this jump will be wider. Either way, I’m sure Evel would be proud of the way Doug is going about this jump. As Doug has said he’s not trying to beat Evel’s record, he wants to finish what his friend started. Respect to all the greats that gave so much following their dream, Bob Gill, Super Joe Enihorn and others that paid the greatest price. You are remembered. If you’re at “The Chip” I hope all fans stop by to say hello. Well wishes to all the fans and all the jumpers, smart and be safe, see you down the road.
