Then a new vacation property dropped into our laps on Wednesday. We got a notice that a new property had hit the market. It needed a bit of TLC, totally doable for us, but was the kind of cabin that I think of for a getaway space instead of an HGTV/Magnolia-type flip job. It was on 25 acres and most of that was a private spring-fed lake for owners of the land around the lake only to use and was within 30 minutes of two huge, popular, public lakes. Best of all it was in the lower mid-range of our price range. We immediately called to make an offer sight unseen, only to learn that it had been sold less than an hour before we called at a much lower price. My husband is kicking himself for not answering his e-mails sooner that day. He usually does it first thing in the morning. Of course, we are crushed but at least we know that they are out there. We may still get a chance at it because it was bought by a real estate agent to parcel up the 14 acres of land and put in a subdivision. They are finding now that there is an ordinance in the area that only a few original houses around the lake can have access to the lake. No other access ramps, piers, or boathouses can be built. Now more sewers can be put around the lake because of perkability. Maybe it will cool his engines. He may still want to flip the house but we are trying to negotiate a deal so that he makes some money and we can get it and fix it like we want it instead of covering the problems with pretty and doubling the price leaving the new owners with the same problems it has now. Maybe. Then again maybe we are meant for something better.
