The picture is before she dresses it. To dress it, she puts a small piece of black sponge in the wound, attaches the suction tube that runs into the wound vac. Then she seals it with a ton of tape. It's the on/off of the tape 3x week that is tearing up my skin. All the docs agreed that the antibiotics have done their thing.
PICC (peripherally inserted central catheter) line is a type of intravenous line inserted into a peripheral vein, typically in the arm, and guided into the superior vena cava (SVC), a large vein near the heart. The SVC is the destination for the tip of the PICC line. So, when Deborah put the medicine in, it traveled to the SVC. Kind of gave me the creeps thinking about that! I was nervous when the nurse was taking it out yesterday but I didn't feel a thing.
