I don't use carpet, I use large, room-sized rugs. In my case, several large rugs since the area is 25X25. I usually start scouring end-of-summer sales, like the ones starting now, for discounted ones too. They usually last several years but are much easier to replace than carpet. My son even got a rug that I like for the ground outside his RV so they don't track so much dirt into the house. It is made of plastic straw and I would have never thought of using it if he hadn't found in on one of his trips. They have them at all the stores on-line now in many styles. You might even check those out. They are on their second year with it and it is holding up well.
