Below is what I posted on FB a bit ago.
Have posted before about having 3 surgeries and recovering from sepsis starting in June. This trip to Nice (for peace, beauty, recovery) and several places in Spain was planned months ago (except I added Nice last minute to get a slow start). Didn't make my decision to go until the end of September.
I'm here. It's beautiful and peaceful. The Mediterranean Sea can be seen from my balcony and is a 4 minute walk from my Airbnb. Given the facts that this 71 year old body isn't fully healed and I still use a cane for support on uneven services, I've rearranged the next leg of my trip. I don't have the stamina to run all over Spain but I don't want to go home. So, I booked 2 extra days in Nice and will finish it up with 6 days in Paris. I have been to Paris a bunch of times and, like Nice, its enough just to BE there.
This was confirmed as a wise choice today. I went to the huge outdoor produce market and decided I would walk the half mile to the Chagall Museum. That's a big deal for me at this point. Google said it was mostly flat. Well, let me tell you, Google lies! Most of it was uphill and the last part was up a steep hill. Also, Google kept changing its mind and the walk was much longer than .5.
BUT , I made it. Problem is that once I got there, my stamina deserted me and getting around the Museum was tough. I've been before but parts were closed for renovation. Much more was open this time. A beautiful place.
I am not fully healed yet. In fact my wound isn't yet completely closed and I have to apply dressings every few days.
I am proud of myself for doing as much as I have done so far. Paris will be a piece of cake. Will probably just revisit favorites, sit in cafes and mosey along. I leave for Paris Tuesday and am coming home 2 days earlier than previously planned.
I guess my focus is on 'not waiting' for everything to be 'just so' before you do anything. Be smart, modify situations to meet your needs and GO! DO! ENJOY!
I always travel solo and love the time with just my thoughts, my preferences, the quiet of not having to respond to anyone all day long. I enjoyed myself by taking pics of some of the zillions of dogs with their owners at the market. I stalked one lady with a hound that reminded me of my Walter, but, she eluded me. Lol
Carpe Diem is FR!
(FSFers- I am exhausted!)
