What’s a “Meal in a Bag”?
It’s a complete meal that fits into a single ziploc bag made entirely from shelf-stable ingredients like canned and boxed goods. Each one is designed to feed four adults for less than $10, and can be easily stored, donated, or used for quick emergency dinners, so you just grab it, cook it, and go! (There was some confusion about this, but I am NOT selling the meal kits; I am providing the ideas and recipes for anyone to use for free.)
💬 FAQ Time:
What about boxed dinners that call for extras like milk and butter?
I try to make each bag as all-inclusive as possible. I often use evaporated milk, which is very close to heavy cream (and heavy cream is essentially just milk + butter!) It’s shelf-stable and fits perfectly in the bags. It’s not always possible to make every single one 100% inclusive, but I do my best to keep them self-contained.
🏷 “Great Value isn’t sold at Dollar Tree!”
You’re totally right and I promise I know that! 😂 I’ve been doing Dollar Tree dinners for over 3½ years, and when I first started, I focused exclusively on Dollar Tree ingredients. But as my platform grew, people began asking for budget meals from other stores too. I needed to buy several of these ingredients in bulk so I shopped mostly at Walmart.
“Dollar Tree Dinners” is the name people recognize me by it’s how folks find me, and how I’m credited in various articles. But if it helps… just call me Rebecca instead 😉
