I had my annual check in with my cardiologist 2 weeks ago. My EKG was a little off but not of great concern and my lab work was ok with slightly elevated triglycerides. I told him about the shortness of breath and noted that my mom and grandma died from a stroke. He recommended a stress test to make sure there were no new blockages.
I am having the chemical test as well. No food or water for 4 hours before the test. No caffeine in any form for 12 hours before the test.
I could be there for 3-4 hours. They inject something that will increase my heart rate as if I had been exercising. It feels weird, sort of scary like my body is in autopilot. When it reaches the level they want, I'm put in a machine that takes pictures of my heart for 20-30 minutes. Then, I wait until my heart rate comes back down and I'm scanned again.
