When I was still in the air on my way to Rome, I got a text from 2 different clients. One to tell me she got a new cat. She lost her beloved Sam 6 weeks or so ago. The second was from Barb, a woman I saw when I was at Discovery and started seeing probono when she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She was an amazing, full of life human. I just loved her. More a friend in the end than a client. Her text was to tell me she had entered hospice. I hadn’t talked to her in several weeks. I texted her right away to ask her to download WhatsApp so we could talk. She didn't so I just called her the day after. She didn't reply. I texted her a couple more times but no answer. I didn't have her daughter's phone number.
She's been on my mind throughout this trip. I statement most of today because tonight I was going to a meet up with the couple who created the Paris travel FB group, Les Frenchies. Italy great group and they bounce anyone who is mean! It was so cool to meet them and Antoine actually said goodbye with a sweet 'bisses'.
When I left them, I was waiting for a taxi to take me to Saint Eustache Cathedral for a choir and light show. Just as I got in the taxi, I got a text from Barb's daughter, saying she was in the ladt few hours before her death. She said she told her mom I was thinking of her. I felt devastated that I'd not talked to her in recent weeks but so grateful that her daughter reached out to me.
The production at Saint Eustache was the perfect place to be to begin processing my own grief. I think she would have loved it. She was iffy on Christianity but believed death wasn't the end. I'll post pics on here but can't post the videos of the choir singing. I'll post those on FB.
Took a taxi to my neighborhood and had a stiff drink and, then, walked home.
Thanks for being here for me.
