My son and daughter-in-law arrived home from Ireland safely last night. Unfortunately, she has to work today.

Their son got back from Florida safely the night before. His surgery wound from the infection did not bother him, but he didn't get to swim. He said that he thinks the scab fell off while he was gone. He has a check-up with the surgeon tomorrow. He hopes to start swimming again because he has a job as a lifeguard this summer and hasn't been able to work for two weeks. He has also had to miss training for the swim team.

They are starting our back deck and the floor of the boathouse tomorrow. It should be finished next week. Getting that deck redone so that I can sit out there for my coffee or at the end of the day is one of my big checkmarks. Just sad that between not having a way out the back door and walking on plywood in the house, no one wants to go over the holiday when they all have an extra day off. It would have been nice to smoke some meat up there, and all watched the fireworks over the river from the back porch.

One of the neighbors up there made the comment that she didn't know how we could stand having people come and go at our house when we were not there. I told her that the only thing we had to steal there was the furniture. We are using the furniture I put together for the other cabin. I intentionally scrounged up used furniture and refinished it for a shabby chic look, but none of it is worth anything. If someone went to the effort to steal big furniture that is probably not worth the price of a decent meal, then they need it more than I do. When we are there, all we have to do is change the code on the lock. I am grateful that it is not something that I have to worry about.

I am also grateful that we found someone trustworthy to take care of this house, the cat, and our plants while we are gone, so I don't have to worry about them, although when I think about it, most of my furniture here is getting old and we don't really have anything else that anyone would want at this house either. I can't even wear jewelry except for the tacky non-metal kind so I don't have any jewelry to steal either. I like that we are simple.
