We did get some snow for hours and hours, but it was such a fine dry powder that it didn't accumulate to but about 3 inches. I am glad that we didn't get the freezing rain first, as we usually do, but that is supposed to start any time and go through tomorrow. About 25 miles south of us, they have had freezing rain for about 12 hours. Things are already coming down, and they are expecting it to keep up for almost 24 more hours. Our DIL is off Today through Tuesday unless she gets called in because someone living further away can't make it in. Also thankful that the hospital she works in is less than five miles away on flat ground. So far, we have been warm and toasty. I can't handle the cold in this phase of life. I have been having to bundle up just to take Poppy outside. Thank goodness she doesn't like the snow and ice as well as she did as a puppy and hasn't wanted to go out a lot. When she does, she makes short work of doing her business, goes over to stick her head in the cat door to check on the kitties, then runs inside quickly. Grateful to live far enough south that we can still have seasons, sometimes all in one day, but don't have to put up with snow very often, and usually not over a few days before it is gone. It is nice that even though we are having this, it is not the norm for us. I am glad that preparation is so novel that the way to prepare for snow is to buy up all the toilet paper, eggs, milk, bread, and cheese, then give it away to those who are less fortunate in a few days when they don't need it. My new puffer coat. I have always stayed away from them because they make people look like the Stay Puft Marshmallow man and that is the last thing I need but I broke down and bought one this year. It is sooooo warm.

We wear the same size but she is shorter and the coat that was supposed to be thigh-length came almost to her knees. It zips so it made it difficult for her to zip it up and unzip it. I have a little trouble because it is about an inch too long to do it easily on me. She had only worn it a time or two and decided she didn't like it but it was too late to take it back. She asked me if I wanted it. I was hesitant, but my mother talked me into it. I'm grateful. My son and his wife both found one similar to it this year, though. I believe they said they got them at Land's End. They have big spuares that are not as puffy but are still very warm.

Cinq Choses Pour Moi Posted by Krista on 1/24/2026, 5:44 pm, in reply to "Saturday Gratitude..." 1) got my auction hut work done today - I took on some extra doing pics for them to help out as we had someone quit this week 2) working 2 extra hours at the station weekends on the new website (yoursaintjohn.ca). I actually love doing stuff like this and it's nice to get paid 3) fresh bed sheets tonight 4) Ray made my beans today so I'm all set for the next few weeks again. Love them and great source of protein 5) hot baths (last 2 nights in the middle of the night) help with leg cramps. I am trying to drink water tonight to not have it happen

The doctor put him on magnesium, but they still come sometimes. He loves Theraworx Muscle Cramp Relief when they wake him up. Personally, I would prefer the hot bath (with Epsom salts, of course).

I always love days when I am home to relax and take a nap! 3. It’s been a year and 2 days since Ken had his fall. So grateful we have gotten past that horrible time and even though Ken is not back to how he was before he fell, he’s a lot better than he was! 4. No place that I need to go this weekend. 5. This day and all it has to offer! God is good.

Making plant-based chili this afternoon and have a bunch of chicken in the crockpot which I will shred and used for something. If we lose power,I can eat cold shredded chicken and cold chili. Spent time at the office getting a sense of where I want my pics hung. As ready as I can be for the storm. Cold brew coffee in case the power goes out, lots of batteries, lots of water, water in a pot if toilets back up, pet friendly sidewalk salt,flashlights located, chargers charged. The prediction is for 3-6 inches of snow to start tonight. Freezing rain to start early in the morning and bloody continue into Monday morning with an expected 1/2- 1 inch of ice forming on the trees and all the above ground wires. Temps in the single digits next week so no melting. All week the weatherman said this would be the worst case scenario and it is now the forecast. Ya know, my biggest concerns are limbs falling on my house and Lew's trouble navigating all of it.

If you have tea candles, you can put about 4 of them in a muffin tin on a surface that is safe to get hot, put a cookie cooling rack over them, and heat water and soups over that. A small saucepan with a bigger candle would probably work the same, but take longer. I tended to keep sterno for that, then forget it, and tried this method first when we would have power outages. The generator works so much better. I love the blue heron. I have an affinity for them. We have had nesting blue herons at our house for over 17 years. When I was up at the old lake house last week blue herons were nesting in the trees in our yard. The same thing happened at the other house when we got there.

Although our weather will be cold, it's nothing compared to the winter storm barreling across the country. 3. The nectarines, peaches, and pears right now are as sweet as candy, 4. Medical test results available online. 5. FSF family and friends! I pray for all of you, your families, your friends in my daily prayers... and thank you for praying for me! Maintenance is a forever endeavor!

We have been noticing how sweet some of the fruit is right now and the grapes are so crisp. Stay warm in that cold. It's all relative.
