WHY do I travel??? Posted by Paula on 4/9/2026, 12:59 am Found out that the strike is supposed to only be 4 hours in the afternoon of the 10th. I was chatting with United for over an hour, much of that in the queue. I told them I wanted my original itinerary back. They were going to charge me 73000 miles in addition to the 36000 I already gave them. I told them that, due to the strike, they told those of us on the original flight that they were giving us a waiver and would not charge more if we changed flights due to the strike He said I used the waiver up when I booked the flight to Zurich. I went on and on about how unfair that was but knew it wouldn't do any good. SO, I canceled the entire trip. I got my miles and money back. Then I searched again and I got the trip I wanted but I leave Friday instead of Thursday. I'll spend another night at this hotel which is almost 1/2 the price of the train from Zurich to Rome! And it will be so much easier on me not having to navigate from Zurich to Rome. I'm hoping I can get some sleep on the plane so I don't waste all of Saturday due to jet lag! I am freezing. Can't get warm. I jacked the heat up to 80 in here and I'm still cold! Took a muscle relaxer and an anti-inflammatory with a Prilosec Hopefully I'll be asleep soon. Yes, I can pivot but, geese, this is crazy and exhausting.

It fills you up on so many levels... being somewhere you do not see often. You love the discovery of these places. You breath in the cultures and what they offer. The music, art, gardens,food, people and more. It's wonderful. I think. The changes in itinerary sound great and will work. I am excited for you..

Glad you were able to cancel your trip, get your miles and money back and rebook the trip you wanted! Get some rest. Hopefully you will wake up refreshed! Having this extra day at your hotel is a good thing as you can relax and rest before your travel day.
