When posting messages that contain useful information please only use smilies at the start and end of the message to make it easier to copy it to the supplementary board. It is even more helpful if you post a copy of useful information on the supp board yourself.
I used to add more baking powder to mine, 2 tsp in one batch as well as the self raising flour and yes they did rise. Remember to whisk the eggs separately so they are well beaten and frothy as this could help add air and help the rise.
I also used sultanas which I soaked in water for at least a few hours or overnight and drained before adding so they were really plump.
I used to really enjoy them with a thick layer of butter.
