Claims of vibration and even shock absorption were made in the past as ways to protect the nib in a fountain pen (i.e. LUS Super Molleggiata) or to ensure a "more comfortable writing experience" (BIC M10 of 1956). In reality, the difference provided by such dampening gimmicks was practically zero. I am assuming the VAS claims in this case apply to the writing experience. In the picture, the "shock absorber" used in the LUS pen (the bit at the end of the rod is actually positioned on a flexible spring.
