I see in the news that Elon Musk’s SpaceX has started the program to launch Starlink satellites to achieve world- wide high-speed internet access. As I look through the scope of history I see that this is a good thing for what it achieves. However, it is not without a formidable change in how we view the world, or more noticeably, the night sky. On a relatively dark night without too much light pollution look up to try and find a real dark sky with twinkling lights, they are called stars and planets. If you look up at the right time you will see a swarm of satellites, all in a row stream over your house. Like a string of glowing pearls in the sky, they will zip across from your horizon or even directly overhead.
Cost for these things : about $10,000,000,000.00
That’s : dollars in Billions
I am musing. It’s called progress, just like making a phone call by pushing buttons or just telling your phone who you want to hear on the other end…rather than turning a crank on the side of a wood box and getting a real live operator. Yes, I had one of those in the old days.
OK, I can agree world-wide low-cost internet access will lift people, provide education and reduce poverty in the world. It is a good thing, if handled properly.
Write a friend a letter : Fountain pen, ink, some nice paper, an envelope and a postage stamp…
Feel the endorphins slowly warm you up inside as you write, in a manner that almost unchanged over thousands of years, today making an impression on paper, a time ago on wax tablets, clay tablets or woven sea reeds. Find the pleasure with the miracle of your G-d given brain with a mental connect that allows you to express yourself from thought to hand to paper. When you write your eye only has focus on the tip of the nib sailing across the paper. See the flow of your favorite color ink, your letter shading, it’s all in your own hand, your very own personality on paper for a distant reader…and the stamp is only .55 cents, at this time, going to .58 cents in August. It used to be .03 cents in 1942. Oh, my!
Check out this link to a source that will show you exactly when these satellites will swarm all in a row over your head.

It’s early summer, hopefully nice weather in your area…enjoy a walk to your mailbox, enjoy the fresh air, meet your neighbors, pet their dog and drop your letter in the mailbox….and next time you see your postal carrier thank him for his tireless work, one of our silent heroes of today.
