After years of crossing paths at shows I can say that I for one, always feel that your pricing seems fair and appropriate. And to reiterate what the others have said, (initial) pricing is a statement of one's perception. It is, at least in this community, just a starting point for discussion. The adage is, value is established where a willing Seller and willing Buyer meet. And if the discussion is is in good faith, neither party can be condemned for their opinions.
There are collections at shows I only look at, knowing that the seller uniformly values their pens more that I do. There are other dealers from whom I always pay asking without any discussion. That, because I've always found their pricing and the quality of their offerings, impeccable.
All that is a just a long way of saying I think your prices, or price changes are fair and ethical prima facie. So while your apology is interesting, I suspect strongly, it is not warranted.
In now and then selling pens myself, I have stood cringing inside while a potential buyer looks at something I have on offer. The moment they pick it up I realize it's something I'm not quite ready to part with. If they want it at the asking price, it goes. I have more than once reconsidered a price when someone puts something down, sometimes going higher, sometimes lower. More often, I have quietly taken a pen off the table to live with it a little longer.
Thanks for your provocative note.
