P.S. I am assuming you are already familiar with Mike Masuyama - still active, still totally great. I *always* get in his queue in LA and SF, but his wait time might be a bit longer.
Ok, so the Chicago show it just 2 weeks out so the US grinders may be a bit clogged up, but here are my thoughts:
Gena Salorino, who does work as Custom Nib Studio in Los Angeles, does very nice work. She started this by working with John Mottishaw at CFP, and then did a bunch of training in Japan with some renouwned nib guys. Really wonderful to work with, I've had her do nibs at a couple of shows, including an M italic on a Bexley pen that was really top-notch.
Mark Bacas does his work as The Nib Grinder and in addition to doing excellent work, he really knows italics. A young pen friend in San Diego used to get almost all of her new pens done by him, usuall F or EF stub or italics. If *I* can write with those, anyone can! And he offers some very innovative grind concepts as well.
Another recent/strong entrant is Kirk Speer at Pen Realm. I've only used one pen with nib work by Kirk but quite a few people who I respect for their pen knowledge have used his services, and one area he seems to be doing very well in is modern steel flex nibs, though his offering (Secretary of De Flex) seems to be out of stock.
All three have good pages describing their work and offerings and while a nib is very personal, I have to think that with your many years with pens, you'll be able to describe what you'd like and I think one or all of those folks could do well by you. I know there are others, including Mike and Linda Kennedy (carrying on Richard Binder's work) but the three I mention because I have some experience with each.
Hope that helps,
Jon
