You figured it out exactly... not to mention I had seen that page at one time but neglected to bookmark it. I've done that now, thanks to you. I would have to practice a bit on my soldering skills and whatnot, still plenty of chances to mess things up.
Now that it is on my mind, I may look for an old barrel when at the SF Show in August, maybe Richard Lott will have one in his bins of parts. If I could swap in a complete lever I'd feel better, but your link is certainly a way to go, too. I have a local pen friend, also a jeweler, who likely could do this.
Anyway, thank you, glad you liked the Conklins. It is pens/etc like those in the thread that make me so angry about the poor quality pens being made as "Conklins" today.
