- Upper pen: Arnold Pen Company, circa late 1930s - mid 1940s. I believe this kind of material was sometimes referred to as "end-of-the-day", as they would throw all the scraps of various stuff in the machines to produce a kaleidoscopic sheet for some pens. This was a low-cost pen, certainly less than $1.00 at the time, and the hardware was badly corroded and missing a nib. Only ID was on the clip
- Lower pen: a contemporary Leonardo Officina Italiana, Momento Zero Grande, 2020, in Jonathon Brooks' Primary Manipulation "Vesuvio" acrylic. Jonathon has become a phenom with his skills at blending all sorts of colors and also coming up with new color formulations. I have 4 pens in various formulas of his and they are remarkable, but we can also see that the aesthetic has been with us for a while, even if it went out of style for a while (Helloooo, Parker 51 and Sheaffer TD and Snorkel colors!)
