Katie Hill commemoration
A letter from Steve Heuring, husband of our late friend Katie Hill
August 24, 2022
Dear friends of Katie,
Today is Katie’s birthday and a good time to remember the importance she placed on
her relationships and maintaining connections with friends and family both near and far.
Katie got a lot of joy from keeping in touch, whether by writing a letter with one of her
favorite fountain pens or by sending an email.
To honor this special day, I invite you to write to someone you care about. You may
want to let that person know that Katie inspired you to do it by writing “in honor of Katie Hill” at the bottom of your note.
Please feel free to pass this message along.
With love,
Steve
We occasionally remind our friends with the above message from Steve on this anniversary. It’s hard to believe it is 20 years now.
Katie had just attended the 2002 Washington DC Pen Show. That evening she took a train to the suburban home of a relative. Tragically, she was robbed and killed at gunpoint.
Here at Pentrace we set up commemorative fountain pens from Monteverde and the Pelikan M150 donated by the manufacturers Yafa and Chartpak, the U.S. distributor for Pelikan. The 100 donated pens of each brand had the engraving “Katie Hill Forever our Pen Pal.” The entire lot of 200 pens were sold within a few hours raising $12,500. which was 100% donated to Katie’s family for distribution to her favorite charities.
