I generally stick to blue blacks. I like that there are new sources for iron gall inks now that old standbys like MB BB & Lamy BB are no longer iron gall.

I dislike saturated inks for aesthetic and pen preservation reasons, and it seems that many of the newer inks are saturated. Fortunately, there are some newer inks that tread more quietly. I like the Califolio inks for their subtle shading. My wife uses their inks in her 1920s Duofold.
