My daughter just back from vacation to Key West, she had a good time, saw 6-toe cats at Hemingway's house and among other things visited the Truman White House.
She sent me a picture of his desk, knowing I like looking at famous desks. I was amazed that I saw a nice leather trimmed desk blotter, paper tray and pen cup.
Well, here is the rub. Back around early 1990's when I was messing around in a side business for fun producing advertising ink blotters I received a phone message from someone with a note to call him back at the Pentagon in Wahington, DC. It seems that when someone would Google ink blotter my name came up first, so I called back. I didn't think it was real. Turns out it was the Secretary to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Holy Cow! The government was restoring the Summer White House and they wanted a nice desk blotter with appropriate accessories. I provided that from a supplier friend of mine that also furnished nice leather desk blotters to the Supreme Court, members of Congress, Senate and other officials.
I was amazed after more than 30 years it was still there. Nice to know a small piece of me is still there.
