I had not noticed the Queen’s necklace with the “central” large sapphire being shifted over to the left. Now I cannot unsee it!
I too wondered about the sapphire cluster earrings worn at the funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth II. I slightly remember QEII wearing a similar pair, but cannot find a picture. I will keep searching, however.
Regarding the sapphire earrings worn by Queen Camilla at the South African State banquet, I agree with other posters' comments below that these are not the earrings of the Saudi sapphire demi-parure, if we compare pictures of the recent State African banquet with this picture of King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia's State visit on 30th October, 2007. The diamond motifs at the upper section look a bit different, and the Saudi earrings also have an extra diamond at the bottom, below the sapphire, which is absent on the earrings worn at the recent State banquet (but I admit the picture is a bit blurry to be 100% sure):
By the way, has anyone noticed that Camilla wore Queen Elizabeth II's sapphire necklace inadequately? The central sapphire of the necklace should normally be the (bigger) rectangular sapphire, which on Camilla has slipped on her left side...
Interestingly, Queen Camilla has worn another unidentified pair of sapphire earrings - a very classical cluster model - for Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in September. I do not remember to have seen these earrings previously on Camilla, nor on Queen Elizabeth II or on the Queen Mother. But I wonder if these earrings could be the same as the ones worn by Queen Mary on the picture below (as her choker is Empress Maria Feodorovna's sapphire and pearl choker, and her tiara centre is the sapphire brooch surrounded by diamond bow motifs, later given to Princess Margaret, I guess we can safely assume that the earrings are sapphire too...):
What do you think?
