Besides that, I have said this before but it is more than likely that the sunburst tiara actually contains other diamonds than the ones in the top row in the Sapphire tiara.
1. The brilliant cut diamonds (1880-1900) from both the Sapphire and Wedding Gift Parure were all sourced through outstanding firms in Amsterdam and probably had the same colour and cut and are hardly distinguishable for us mere amateurs.
2. Would you risk having a glitch with diamonds screwed back on your investiture tiara at the last minute? I don't think neither Maxima nor the Court Jeweller would have taken the risk.
I love Emma's sunburst tiara on princess Margriet in New York a few years ago. She combined it with the honeycomb necklace and that made for a stunning set of jewels.
In my view it needs a looser hairstyle than that very pulled back hair Mabel had on her wedding day. It looked better on her on the eve of Beatrix' abdication and WA's succession.
It might become a favourite piece for the young princesses, but i hope the family collection has the funds to buy diamonds for it so they don't need to take them from the sapphire tiara anymore.
Mabel does not receive that many invitations for tiara events these days but she did pull off the quite modern looking 'sunburst' tiara bought at Mellerio in the 1880's which she wore at her wedding and a few times afterwards. It was not a success on Maxima. Perhaps it would work sitting in Beatrix helmet shaped hairdo.
Give it a try….. perhaps with Mabel?!
Yikes. Lets keep that idea locked in a display cabinet
The large diamonds in Queen Wilhelmina's Diamond Necklace - a gift from her father for her 9th birthday!!!- are fabulous but the festoon necklace setting is not really a winning design IMHO. Neither are all the other tiara settings: festoons, trapezium etc. What were they thinking?
