Prince Henry of Orange-Nassau married his second wife Maria of Prussia in Potsdam in 1878. He had the Berlin Jeweller Friedenberg create an impressive Sapphire Parure from Sapphires he inherited from his mother Grand Duchess Anna Pavlovna Romanova. After his death a few months later the Sapphire jewels were returned to the Orange-Nassau family: to King Willem III to be exact. In 1879 or 1880 Queen Emma was gifted a sapphire bow brooch which contains a huge sapphire set in a double row of diamonds. The yellow gold setting of the sapphire does not match the setting of the diamond bow. This brooch is now worn by Queen Maxima. https://www.gettyimages.nl/detail/nieuwsfoto%27s/king-willem-alexander-and-queen-maxima-of-the-netherlands-nieuwsfotos/659866750 The detachable central sapphire with the very distinct double row of diamonds seems to match the largest sapphire set in two graduated rows of diamonds in the large corsage created for Princess Marie. https://royal-magazin.de/wp-content/uploads/marie-preussen-oranien-nassau-saxe-meiningen-netherlands.jpg |
