Tsk-tsk... this is not good. I am not at all impressed by this rather worrying display of ignorance (or even worse; neglect) to these kind of details. Yes, they might be details, but it should not be that difficult for the members of the Royal Family to get them right (with the help of their staff, who should definitely be able to pay attention to this).
And just a quick observation regarding the recent visit to Norway; the visit was "only" an official visit, not a full State Visit - though luckily the King and Queen did host a magnificent gala dinner for the President and his wife. Previous Message
King Charles III wore the red sash and golden breast star of Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour (+ some of his British and Commonwealth orders).
President Emmanuel Macron wore the red sash and breast star of Knight Grand Cross of the Bath, along with the breast star of Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour (as Grand Master of the Legion of Honour, each French president is automatically raised to the dignity of Grand Cross for his lifetime).
Correct me if I am wrong, but I think it is actually the first time that President Macron wears his breast star of the Legion of Honour: in France, it is unfortunately never worn, since the white-tie dresscode has been dropped for a long time in favour of a less formal dresscode, and when in white-tie abroad, Macron had until now worn only the breast star of the foreign order bestowed to him by his royal host, without the breast star of the Legion of Honour (see for instance the pictures of his recent State visit to Norway: during the State banquet, he wore only the sash and breast star of the Norwegian order of Saint Olav).
Queen Camilla wore the sash of Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour, but she did not wear the breast star, which is actually a mistake: the insignia for a Grand Cross are the sash AND the breast star, not OR. And it is strange to pin the sash with King Charles III's family order, as family orders are usually worn only on the left side of the breast (close to the heart). She should have worn her husband's family order on her left shoulder, and a brooch on her right shoulder to fasten the sash of the Legion of Honour.
Prince William wore the (silver) breast star of Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour (the second highest rank of the order, after Grand Cross), but there's a mistake here too, and even two, as he wore the breast star on the wrong side, and as he did not wear the matching medal pinned on his breast with his other medals (the insignia for Grand officer are the same medal as the one for officer, + a breast star which should normally be worn on the RIGHT side of the breast).
Catherine, Princess of Wales, pinned her sash of the Royal Victorian Order with a small blue pin of the French National Order of Merit (which comes in precedence after the Legion of Honour). In itself, it is already a bit weird, as the pins of the orders are supposed to be used only when the full insignia can not be worn (typically, on everyday's suits or dresses). And if you need to fasten your sash, then a diamond brooch is all a lovely princess needs... I can't identify to which dignity of the Order of Merit the pins corresponds (Commander, Grand Officer, or Grand Cross). If Catherine has been bestowed the Grand Officer, she should have worn a silver breast star and a medal, and if she has been bestowed the Grand Cross, she should have worn a golden breast star and the blue sash of the order, from the right shoulder to the left hip.
I have not seen if the other members of the Royal Family have been awarded any French order. Previous Message
