I have long suspected that the arrangement is that the jewels belong to the Monarch or Crown (depending on the piece), may be used as a "life loan", but remain the property of the Monarch, personally or officially. The monarch decides who may wear what. That ensures that pieces do not leave the collection, don't get sold for taxes etc., and the various royals who would not otherwise afford the pieces or insurance, can wear them.

I was wondering what people know or think is possibly about the inheritance from Queen Elizabeth II. Princess Anne has been reportedly wearing jewellery from her mother specially one of her pearl necklaces which looks more impressive than her own, and there have been reports about Kate wearing something similar. Anne has also continued to wear the Marie Feodorovna pearl collar and the Queen Mary City of London necklace on several occasions. Charlotte wearing her horseshoe brooch at the funeral is also of interest though we cannot for certain know when she received it but it could be that QEII gave comparable gifts to other family members. Has anyone noticed a particularly new pattern of jewellery wearing among the RF since the death.
