The president is wearing a white bow tie but King Frederik has worn a black bow tie..... strange.

I was so pleased to see that it was a white-tie banquet. I could be wrong, but I cannot remember having seen a white-tie banquet in connection with a State Visit to Latvia for a long time (if ever). Queen Mary looked fabulous. It seems like red is the colour to wear (see Mette-Marit only a few days previous at the banquet hosted for the Norwegian Parliament). Besides, red is a really good colour on Mary.
In addition to her jewels she also wore the Sash and Breast Star of the Order of the Three Stars. Since King Frederik already received this order back in 1997 he was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Viesturs with Swords. He wore the Sash and Breast Star of this new Order to the banquet as well as the Breast Star of the Order of the Three Stars (top) and the Neck-tie and Breast Star of a Grand Commander of the Order of Dannebrog.
