I always wondered about that story. The back does seem to indicate a merger of the lower part of Queen Mary's bandeau and something else. But it also raises the question what was done with the top half of the original bandeau.
Maybe the top part is a newer piece created with the former top part and something inherited from Princess Louise?

I read on an instagram post that the tiara worn by Lady Marina is a combination of Queen Mary's crochet tiara and of a fringe tiara owned by Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyle.
This is something I have never heard of. Is there any truth to this statement?
