Could it be that you are thinking of the ruby suite that Prince Henrik gave his wife Queen Margrethe on the occasion of their Silver Wedding? I also thought that I had seen a brooch created for this set, but I have not been able to find a photo of it. So it could have been just my imagination actually. What I have found, however, is a photo of Queen Margrethe wearing the central part of the necklace as a brooch:
