This is the brooch that was given to Queen Alexandra as a wedding gift in 1863, upon her death it passed into the main royal family and is now considered among the jewels to be worn by the wife of the Prince of Wales.
It thus passed from Queen Alexandra, to Queen Mary (as Queen), to the Queen Mother (as Queen), to Diana and now to Camilla; both as the wife of the Prince of Wales.
There is only one brooch, not two versions, it was never copied, the brooch worn by Diana is the same as the one now worn by the Duchess of Cornwall.
The royal collection consider is as being part of the jewels to be traditionally worn by the wife of the Prince of Wales; and when there isn't a Prince of Wales, to be worn by the Queen. Which explains why it passed from Queen Mary to the Queen Mother in 1937 along with the other jewels to be worn by the Queen Consorts, and it was then gifted to Diana as a wedding present in 1981.
The brooch was a originally a gift to Queen Alexandra from the Ladies of North Wales.
This has all been confirmed by the Royal Collection, in my correspondence with them.
