John, Pss/Queen Letizia does not wear the diamond engagement ring anymore because that jewel was in a way connected with the Noos scandal. Again very wise of her.
It was reported in the press that, in the times previous to the engagement, Prince Felipe asked his brother in law Iņaki to get the engagement ring for him (perhaps not to rise any suspicious before it was oficially announced). At some point Iņaki picked up the ring and payed it with a card from Noos Institute... When delivering it to the Prince he didn't want to be refunded of the Money, saying it was his gift...
When the Noos scandal broke up and the judges and police were scrutinizing all cards and bills from the Noos Institute this became known. Of course the Pss of Astúrias could not be seen wearing again a ring payed with corrupt money by her indicted brother in law. I donīt think we will see it again. It was a beautiful ring I think.
Again I say the Queen is being wise in not displaying a lot of jewelry in this dificult times. I have no dout she woulb be heavely criticized as ostentatious when there are spanish families in need. The Queen does not have an outstanding popularity, altought I'm sure she will became more popular when she grows in her new role.
Lets not forget that, in her days, Queen Sofia was also very, very scarse in big jewelry in the early years of her husbandīs reign. She started wearing the spanish grand royal jewelry in the 1980s!!
Altought these are totally diferente times, King Felipe's reign will again start in troubled and dificult times for the spanish people (and the scandals in his own family, manely with Infanta Cristina and her husband, and also in great deal his father King Juan Carlos, made huge damage to the image of the spanish monarchy).
I have no doubt that Felipe VI will be a formidable king for Spain and the spanish people, with the support of his Queen. Iīm sure we will see some bigger jewelry in due time.
