I thought the same thing at first, but if you look at the 3rd cluster from the center to the right (the Maharaja's left), it looks more rectangular, with the long sides running vertically, while the Duchess's looks more square, or even rectangular with the long sides running horizontally (if that makes sense). Also, I tried counting the diamonds surrounding the emeralds, and it looks like the Maharaja's has fewer... Certainly it's possible his could have been the inspiration for hers, though.
