The funeral of Deborah Cavendish, Dowager Duchess of Devonshire, the last surviving of the Mitford sisters, took place yesterday, 2nd October 2014, in Chatsworth, near the family's home, Chatsworth House.
The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall were present, as expected.
Camilla wore one of her usual pearl and diamond chokers and a turquoise shamrock brooch, that she has already worn before.
I find it strange to wear turquoise (or any coloured stone) for a funeral. I would have expected a diamond or pearl and diamond brooch.
This brooch could possibly be a wedding gift to Princess Elizabeth (later Queen Elizabeth II) from the Dowager Duchess of Portland (according to the wedding gifts list published on this board by our fellow poster Franck, the Dowager Duchess of Portland presented the future Queen with "a diamond and turquoise shamrock brooch").
