Queen Mary ruby earrings - small Archived Message

There has been a previous discussion as to whether Queen Mary had a small pair of ruby and diamond earrings which she wore before King George gave her the large ruby earrings for her 59th birthday which she subsequently gave to the Crown.

The Royal Collection site has at least 3 photos where it would appear that QM is most likely wearing small ruby and diamond cluster earrings as she is wearing the centre section of her ruby bracelet as a brooch--seen on the collar of her dress.

I suspect that what appears to be another brooch on the bodice of her dress is a watch. She was photographed with it numerous times.

All the photos appear to be from the same photography session as QM is wearing the same dress and jewels.

In the photo below, QM has written the date 1897; however, the Royal Collection has recorded 1896 as the creation date for one of the other photos.

This photo provides the best view of the earrings.
