    Heartfelt thanks from my side too, Arthur, for these lovely pictures. Yes, it looks like a Claddagh brooch to me also and the guess, that it was a present from the hosts in Galway is a quite sensible one (in the picture with the Turquoise trefoil brooch from the arrival ceremony, The Duchess holds a little box in her hand which may contain the brooch).

    BTW to Beth, Claddagh is in Co. Galway, in the Republic of Ireland (Éire) and not in Northern Ireland and the Claddagh symbol is very popular in Ireland . It's mostly worn as a ring (friendship, engagement or even wedding ring). AFAIK, the way the ring is worn tells about the status of the wearer (single, in relationship, engaged, married).
