Queen Alexandra's sapphire tiara and the necklace she had been given by her sister were amongst the gems inherited by her grand daughter Maud of Fife Countess of Southesk and sold after her death by her only son the future 3rd Duke of Fife.
--Previous Message-- : I have found a number of entries in the Court : circular in The Times which state that : Queen Alexandra, as the then Princess of : Wales, wore a tiara of sapphires and : diamonds as well as a sapphire and diamond : necklace. The first such reference I found : was on 30 May 1889, then 29 June 1889, 14 : June 1890 and 14 March 1891. These no doubt : are only a few of the references as I was : not doing a systematic search on the : Princess of Wales. : : I assume that the necklace is the one given : to her by the Czar and Czarina for her : silver wedding present in 1888 which Ursula : has documented on her site : http://www.royal-magazin.de/england/queen-alexandra/sapphires-collar.htm : : I am at a loss to identify the tiara. Could : it be this one? : http://www.npg.org.uk/collections/search/portraitLarge/mw131007/Queen-Alexandra?LinkID=mp00072&search=sas&sText=Queen+alexandra&wPage=10&role=sit&rNo=210 : : As the large central stones in this one are : cabochons they would match the stones in the : necklace. :
