Thanks Nellie. This 2011 paper may be of interest to you. I have not paid to read it, so I don't know precisely what it covers. http://journals.cambridge.org/action/displayAbstract?fromPage=online&aid=7845697 The large variation in the number of gemstones used for various coronations suggests that the settings were changed considerably from time to time. It would be interesting to see if there are any items in the Parliamentary Papers in 1910-11 regarding the setting of the gems for George V. I suspect there would have been a committee to investigate and report on the matter as I feel sure that the cost would have been paid for by the state. Unfortunately, I don't have time this week to follow up on that.
