Below is a report from the Sunday Times 28 July 1929 regarding a diamond necklace Queen Mary wore to a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.
When I looked at my files, I found I had 3 separate entries for this same date- hence my earlier comment, which I now realise was mistaken. I have a number of other entries showing HM wearing diamond earrings for day wear as well as diamond pendants. I will try to work out which jewels the Queen may have worn on those occasion on another occasion.
I think that the description of Queen Mary's diamond necklace for the Garden Party is most probably for the diamond sautoir.
Roberts (page 202) says that QM purchased the original diamond necklace (the source of the larger diamonds) in 1921 and that the sautoir was made in 1928.
