After a lot of hesitation I have decided to see what others think of the following possibility regarding the brooch on Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother's hat during the evening balcony appearance on the day of TM's Silver Wedding celebrations.

I wonder if the brooch could be the one now worn by the Countess of Wessex?
I have tried to rotate the brooch worn by the Countess but, if it is the same brooch, I obviously don't have it at exactly same angle as in HM's hat; but I wonder if it might be a match.

There are some differences; yet they may be due to decorations in HM's hat, although I admit I cannot see them in the daytime photos.
And
What ever HM was wearing on her hat, it seems to be a jewel with which we are unfamiliar, as are the bracelet and brooch she wore for the evening balcony appearance.
