On March 19, 1946, Princess Elizabeth launched at Harland and Wolff's Belfast shipyard the "Eagle" which was then the world's largest aircraft carrier. She was on a 3 day visit to Belfast.
After she launched the ship, she was given a luncheon at Harland & Wolff's then new Drawing Office with 300 guests present. She was given a diamond eagle brooch by the chairman of Harland & Wolff at this luncheon. (Belfast News-Letter 20 Mar 1946 p3)
Pictures in the Illustrated London News (30 Mar 1946) of the trip show the Princess wearing it at the christening which took place in the afternoon of the ship's launch but also the following day on her visit to City Hall.
