Prior to seeing the video below I had not realised that the 6 carat diamond given to HM by Sir Ernest Oppenheimer, chairman of De Beers, was set as a pendant piece at the back of the South African necklace. I had not appreciated what Roberts meant by a 'detachable snap piece'
Various views of this can be seen from 1.36 minutes. There are also some interesting views of the rear of Queen Mary's fringe tiara showing the inner framework.
