I mixed up his great-aunt and his aunt.
the ladies of the family were very kind to George and Marina. Could the fact that George was the only one of his brothers to marry a Royal princess have contributed to them inheriting?

: No it was Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll
: daughter of Queen Victoria who bequeathed
: most of her jewellery to the Kents.

: Was it Louise, the Princess Royal leaving
    : this
: piece to her nephew (she did have two
: daughters) or her unmarried sister Victoria
: (who did leave a major part of her estate to
    : the Duke of Kent)??

: I know this tiara better as the Kent Festoon
    : Tiara, this magnificent Victorian
: masterpiece came into the collection of the
: Duchess of Kent in 1939 - it was left to the
: Kents by HRH Princess Louise, Duchess of
    : Argyll.
: In my opinion it is one of the most
: attractive tiaras that I have seen. I loved
: seeing footage of the present Duchess of
    : Kent wearing it.

: I would really like to have a great deal
    : more
    : information about this tiara.
    :
: For example - when and how did Princess
: Marina acquire it. I have not spotted it
: before circa 1953 but, of course, I may have
    : missed photos or descriptions.
    :
: Equally as interesting would be to date when
: Princess Michael made the changes.
    :
: I have revised my thoughts of yesterday -
: that the change to a pearl base might be
: linked to when HRH placed a row of diamond
: collets (perhaps a necklace) above the tiara
: which the City of London gave to Princess
: Marina. Those diamonds - it seems to my eye-
: are larger than those which formed the base
: of the festoon tiara. One of the problems in
: trying to track the changes is dating
: photos. Even those in magazines and
    : newspapers are often undated.
    :
: Hopefully, our collective minds will come up
    : with some answers.

: yes Beth. You understood perfectly!
: In all my extensive reading (I have
: practically every book) nobody ever mentions
: it and it bothers me lol. I know the
: Princess has sold and changed things around
: in her collection. I do think the tiara was
: much better finished with the diamonds
: instead of with the pearls.

: If I have understood your query correctly
: Andrew, I think that it was probably
: Princess Michael of Kent who changed the
: band of the festoon tiara from a diamond one
    : to a pearl one.
    :
: Princess Marina and Princess Alexandra both
: wore the tiara with a diamond base band.
    :
: In the early years so did Princess Michael,
: but when she changed it is unknown to me. I
: wonder if it could have been when she placed
: a diamond necklace above the tiara the City
: of London gave to Princess Marina?
    :
: Princess Michael with the tiara in the early
: years of her marriage. It has a diamond
    : base.
    :
    :
    :
: Later the tiara had a pearl base.

: Has it been discussed before that this tiara
: had is collet diamond base replaced with
    : pearls by Princess Michael?

: There are quite a few threads now about the
: Kent jewels and I find it all very
: interesting. It is not so often we get to
: discuss this part of the British jewels. I
: am sure we would have had more chances to do
: so had the Duchess participated more at gala
: events. It is a shame she is no longer able
: to or willing to take part. She used to be a
: wonderful representative. What I did not
: realise until today is that she has worn the
: Kent Scroll tiara at least a couple of
: times. And I thought I would share a couple
: of videos showing her with this lovely
    : tiara:

: At the Independence of Uganda in 1962 (looks
: like she wore it at two different events
    : during this occasion):
